About the 40th session of the ICAO Legal Committee Between October 26 and 30, the 40th session of the Legal Committee of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) was held in Montreal (Canada). Russia was represented by the Ministry of Mission to ICAO and the Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Legal Committee has been operating since 1947. The powers are to make recommendations to the ICAO Council on matters related to the interpretation and amendment of the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation. Current agenda: international legal aspects of unmanned aircraft flights, their integration into civil aviation, laws on international air transport and data protection, studying international legal issues related to global satellite systems and services that provide international air navigation, etc. During the session, the Russian delegation presented a proposal to include in the committee's work program an additional topic dedicated to illegal unilateral coercive measures. So far, the initiative, which is supported by several interested countries, "did not pass" in the committee in this session due to the destructive situation of the Western countries. However, Russia will continue this work and seek ICAO's objective assessments of the harmful role of unilateral "sanctions" in aviation. We intend to continue to take an active part in the work of the ICAO Legal Committee in order to achieve progress on the most urgent legal issues of international civil aviation.
