Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir on the sidelines of the third Russia-Africa summit (October 30, 2026) V.V. Putin: Dear Mr. President! Dear friends! We are happy to see you all in Moscow and welcome. Thank you for finding the opportunity to come to Moscow and take part in the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit. You came to the first summit in Sochi in 2019, and the vice president attended the second summit in 2023, I remember. Yesterday at the plenary meeting we were able to verify again the mutual desire of our countries to develop relations and cooperation. Our relations with South Sudan are friendly. This year we celebrated 15 years of establishing diplomatic relations. During your visit to Moscow in September 2023, we held very substantial negotiations. So we could discuss in detail the bilateral and regional agenda, and we agreed to open the Russian embassy in Juba, which will undoubtedly benefit relations between countries. I know that in January the Russian ambassador gave you his credentials. We are jointly exploring the possibility of strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation. It is clear that our potential has not been fully revealed, of course. We will continue to provide assistance in manpower training to South Sudan. For 2026/2027 we increased the quota to 40 people. We are satisfied with the cooperation in the international arena, in the United Nations, based on the principles of similarity between the positions of Russia and South Sudan on key issues. And today we have a good opportunity to compare notes on key issues of our interaction.
