Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with the President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mama on the sidelines of the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit (October 30, 2026) V.V. Putin: Dear Mr. President! Dear friends! Allow me once again to welcome you to Moscow. Our meeting today is a good opportunity to exchange views on current issues in Russia-Ghanaian relations. Of course, we appreciate your active participation in the events of the third summit Mr. President, we thank you very much for your personal participation in these events. The relations between our countries are based on the foundation laid during the establishment of Ghana as an independent country and the struggle against the legacy of colonialism. We were among the first to establish diplomatic relations with Accra - they have been developing since 1958 - we helped create industrial facilities, social infrastructure and national manpower training. And today, in a rapidly changing world, we try to preserve and improve this common heritage. We note with satisfaction the increase in contacts at the various levels, the political consultation mechanism is functioning, and the dialogue is developing along inter-parliamentary and inter-party lines. Ghana is ranked 12th in terms of trade volume with Russia among all countries on the continent. But our trade cycle is one of the largest, if we take sub-Saharan African countries. in January August, trade grew by six percent. That is, the trend is, in principle, positive. Of course we will continue to provide assistance to Ghana in the field of education. We will continue to assist in the training of national personnel. Currently, 649 young people are undergoing training in Russia. I know that during your visit you were awarded an honorary doctorate by a Russian university. We are interested in strengthening coordination with Ghana on international platforms.
