On the sidelines" of the third Russia-Africa Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with the Renaissance President of the Republic of Madagascar, Mikael Rendrianinina (October 30, 2026) V.V. Putin: Dear Mr. President, dear friends, good afternoon! Once again, I would like to thank you, Mr. President, for finding the time and for thinking that it was possible to reach the third summit. Russia's relations with the continent are developing very successfully, at a good pace and of good quality. We have established long-standing friendships with Madagascar. Next year we will celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations. Our negotiations in February in Moscow gave a good impetus to strengthening cooperation between Russia and Madagascar on a wide range of issues. The potential of bilateral trade and economic activity is not exhausted, of course. The trade turnover is still quite modest in absolute terms, but it is gaining momentum and the trends are positive. We also attach great importance to the expansion of humanitarian ties. Already five thousand students from your country have received education in Russia. In April, the University of Antananarivo entered into a cooperation agreement with the University of St. Petersburg, and in June, a memorandum of understanding was signed between MGIMO and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar. I know you received the honorary title of professor of the Russian Academy of National Economy. Let me congratulate you on that. I would like to note separately that in April the Russian Orthodox Church received the status of a legal entity in Madagascar. I want to thank you for that. This is an important event considering that the number of members of the community of the Russian Orthodox Church on the island exceeds one and a half thousand people. And of course, we see your country as an important partner in the process of creating a multipolar architecture of the world order, a balanced and fair system of international relations.
