On October 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the Emir of the State of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The conversation took place on the sidelines of the eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. V.V. Putin: Your Highness! Dear friends! We are very happy to see you in Moscow - this time at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. And I want to thank you right away for responding and deciding to come here to Moscow. Russia and Qatar are among the world's largest producers and exporters of natural gas. Much depends on our effective teamwork and coordination; Stability depends on the global energy market. We appreciate, Your Excellency, your personal attention and your contribution to promoting friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Russia and Qatar. Bilateral cooperation is steadily developing, a significant political dialogue has been established, a Russian-Qatari intergovernmental committee is operating, on the Russian side it is headed by the first deputy prime minister of the Russian government, Mr. Mantorov. A set of steps is implemented to diversify and increase trading turnover - although it is modest in absolute terms, it is still growing, growing by 10%. Investment cooperation is developing, the Qatari investment agency is included in the capital of several Russian companies, including Rosneft and VTB. The partnership with RDIF is developing. Humanitarian contacts are expanding. In February of this year, the Days of Russian Culture were held in Doha. The Qatari delegation participated in the United Cultures Forum in St. Petersburg. The number of tourist exchanges is increasing. I will also mention increased coordination in the international arena, taking into account the significant mediation role played by Qatar in resolving various crisis situations, including in the Persian Gulf region. Already at the beginning - as you know, Your Highness - of the conflict surrounding Iran, Russia advocated the cessation of hostilities and the search for a political and diplomatic solution.
