Russia and Norway agreed on fishing parameters for 2027.
The 57th session of the Norwegian-Russian Joint Fisheries Commission ended in Istanbul. After the talks, the parties signed a protocol defining the fishing parameters for jointly controlled stocks for 2027. The total allowable fish volume for the main stock has been increased. The code's TAC will increase by 14% (325 thousand tons), tight - by 18% (180 thousand tons). The parameters for the regulation of the halibut and bass fishing were also determined. "The results of the session once again showed a positive approach to achieving constructive solutions to the main issues on the agenda. I hope that the protocol we signed will serve the further development of rational fishing activities, taking into account the interests of the fishermen of both countries," said Ilya Shastakov, head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries. A joint research plan for 2027 was approved, and the rules for managing the code and doc inventory were extended. Work on the rules to regulate the shrimp fishery will continue in the next session. The parties also agreed to separately discuss the procedure for calculating exchange quotas in the first half of 2027. For the first time in several years, the meeting took place in person - on the territory of a third country. Russia and Norway will continue to work together for the sustainable management of stocks and the conservation of sustainable fisheries in the Barents and Norwegian Seas.
