On October 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani held a telephone conversation at the initiative of the Bahraini side. Following the ninth ministerial meeting of the strategic dialogue of the Russia-Gulf Cooperation Council, held in Manama on October 18, the ministers reviewed the situation in the region. They emphasized the importance of continuing international efforts to identify ways to de-escalate tensions and resume the negotiation process between the US and Iran as soon as possible based on the Islamabad Memorandum signed on June 17. The parties emphasized the need to maintain stable, uninterrupted and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, which is of crucial importance to the global economy. The ministers also discussed several issues concerning further strengthening of the traditionally friendly Russia-Bahrain relations. They confirmed their mutual interest in continuing close coordination of foreign policy at the UN and other international platforms.
