Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova's answer to a media question about the situation surrounding the ZNPP (October 26, 2026) Question: The government in Kyiv has increased attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and the satellite town of Energodar, which has significantly undermined the operation of the ZNPP. How would you respond to these attacks? Maria Zakharova: The Kyiv authorities completely lost their temper and intensified the targeted attacks on the satellite town of Enrgodar, which is the home of the factory workers, who continue to carry out their duties heroically under extremely challenging conditions, as do their families. Earlier this week, Ukrainian forces attacked only civilian sites, namely, an art school and the fire and rescue unit of the Russian emergency ministries. It is clear that the Kyiv regime is unable to directly harm the ZNPP, continuing its futile attempts to destabilize the factories by intimidating its own people. Such criminal actions clearly show that the only real goal of Zelensky and his junta is to double the number of casualties and turn the Zaporozhye region into a barren land of radioactive contamination. Having failed their fitness test, the ex-players continue to labor under the illusion that any criticism, or even condemnation, amounts to gainful publicity. It is high time that the Western patrons and sponsors of this deranged clique, to whom they have in fact given carte blanche to get away with any crime, realize that they are throwing their money away not only in a failed anti-Russian project, but also in creating direct radiological threats in the heart of Europe, including on their own citizens. We are forced to point out that international bodies, in particular, reacted with considerable restraint to the provocative antics of Kyiv and still did not muster the courage to identify Ukraine directly as the culprit.
