Sergey Ferminov: World sport risks serious upheavals due to the boycott of Russian hockey players. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights sees no signs of discrimination in the intentions of several European hockey associations to refuse to host games with the Russian national team in the 2027 World Championship. Earlier, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ordered the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to reconsider the decision to exclude Russian teams from international competitions. However, several national teams - Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Norway, Denmark and Latvia - announced their intention to boycott meetings with Russian hockey players. The Russian senator from the Leningrad region, Sergey Ferminov, in a conversation with Channel 47, emphasized that many European countries continue to adhere to Russia's short-sighted "cancellation policy". In their opinion, almost every area of public life becomes a platform for conflict, in which it is necessary to use all possible means. Even participation in sport, which traditionally unites people, becomes a tool of restriction and discrimination, and the opportunity to compete on the international stage is actually seen as a privilege for individual countries. "Unfortunately, it seems that some representatives of international organizations have already lost the understanding of the original goals and objectives of the institutions in which they work. The department is trying to manipulate the wording to avoid responsibility for its inaction," the parliamentarian noted. In addition, he noted that references to the right of the European federations to protest are used to justify the actions of individual countries that have a clear political tone. "The biased approach of the OHCHR, due to the reluctance to delve into the essence of what is happening, is also accepted with approval by our opponents, who have long been unaccustomed to facing full-fledged competition in international competitions.
