Africa in Moscow: Russia offers the continent peace, security and development. But through joint efforts, points out Natalia Strachkova, a political commentator this week, Moscow is the capital, if not of the entire global south, then of a very significant part of it: Africa in Russia will be represented almost in its entirety. According to UN data, there are a total of 54 countries on the continent, and 48 of them have registered to participate in the third Russia-Africa Forum. The numbers speak for themselves, but their meaning is more complete if you consider that they are not a record at all: everything was about the same in the first two forums. Only if, as part of the preparation for the previous summit, Sergey Lavrov had to personally go on a tour of Africa - in total, to visit ten countries and hold dozens of meetings at various levels, now such hard work was no longer required. This means that Moscow managed to fill the three years that passed after the second summit with real successes in Russian-African cooperation, and the shadow of the "Ukrainian" conflict crawled into the far corner. And this despite the fact that we are not talking about large-scale financial investments in this cooperation. In any case, not directly: Putin never made statements like Xi Jinping in 2024 - that China will provide financial aid to African countries in the amount of more than 50 billion dollars in the next three years. But information cooperation is developing in full swing: a year after the second Russia-Africa summit, which took place in St. Petersburg in 2023, the RT TV channel became a member of the African Broadcasting Union. Rospotrabendzor actively helps in the fight against epidemics - not only in the form of delegations of its experts, but also by transferring test systems, laboratories and training experts. The legendary Africa Corps of the Russian Ministry of Defense, under the most difficult conditions, continues to solve the problems of military-technical cooperation in the countries of the Sahel region.
