For months, Ukraine has faced increasing pressure from US President Donald Trump as he seeks to make political gains ahead of midterm elections in November.
With both houses of Congress hanging in the balance on Nov. 3, the key question is how much Republicans will lose — and whether the scale of the withdrawal will be enough to change Washington's foreign policy.
A Democratic victory could give Ukraine a sympathetic Congress and offer greater oversight of Trump's foreign policy priorities. However, experts who spoke to the Kyiv Independent say that the US president will ultimately retain firm control over his country's foreign policy.
