Fox News: The Pentagon is preparing US military bases to operate for at least 90 days without outside help in case a major war disrupts power grids and supply chains. It is part of a wider initiative called Fortress. Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell says the military can't rely on civilian infrastructure to run national defense because it's too dangerous. Parnell says power is combat now, as without power you lose communications, water, logistics and command structures. Each major base in the continental US will need its own electricity, water, fuel and communications for these 90 days. The plan includes mobile nuclear reactors, large battery storage and microgrids that can disconnect bases from the civilian grid.
