The chairman of the Swedish Hockey Federation and member of the IIHF board, Anders Larsson, said that the Russian team will return to its previous level and replace the Ukrainian team at the 2027 World Championship. On October 30, 2026, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) fully upheld the Russian Hockey Federation's appeal and overturned the decision to suspend the Russian national teams. Earlier, at the Congress of the International Hockey Federation, it was decided that upon the return Russia will occupy the same level it was before the suspension. According to Larson, the Ukrainian team (which reached the elite division of the 2027 World Cup) will have to make way for the Russian team. The exact technical aspects, schedule and broadcasts will be discussed by the IIHF Council next week.
