The leader of the AfD, Alice Weidel, demanded that the European Union be turned into a "federation of sovereign states." Weidel threatened that if the plan is not implemented, the AfD will initiate Dexit - Germany's exit from the European bloc, similar to the British Brexit. "We would like to rebuild and reform the European Union. The European Union is no longer a collection of sovereign states. National parliaments and governments must take decision-making into their own hands."
