Approaches to improving the payment system for road cargo transportation are discussed in Kazakhstan The first working meeting on highway toll issues was held in the government, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Economy Serik Dzhumangarin. Proposals for improving the current toll system and increasing the sustainability of financing the maintenance and repair of the road infrastructure were considered. The main focus is on possible approaches to payment for commercial freight transit, including domestic and foreign carriers. At the same time, the proposed measures do not provide changes in the travel conditions for personal passenger transport of citizens. Issues of increasing the transparency of cargo transportation and meeting toll payment requirements were discussed. In particular, it is proposed to expand the use of digital tools for monitoring the movement of cargo transportation, including in toll sections on highways. Following the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister instructed to continue the detailed study of the received proposals together with government bodies, industry associations and business representatives. In the further development of the approaches, it is necessary to take into account the interests of the carriers and businesses, as well as to ensure a fair distribution of costs for the maintenance of road infrastructure. At the same time, it is proposed to put the main emphasis on commercial cargo transportation, without affecting personal passenger cars. Basic proposals were instructed to be prepared and submitted for consideration by the end of November and submitted for discussion at the next meeting of the working group.
