Implementation of the President's speech: Electricity surpluses of 20 percent are planned to be created in Kazakhstan by 2029. By 2029 inclusive, 13.3 GW of new energy capacity is planned to be activated in Kazakhstan, including 7.4 GW of traditional generation sources and 5.9 GW of renewable energy. The Deputy Minister of Energy in Kitchen Ilyas reported this at the cabinet meeting. "In general, the activation of new capacities planned until 2029 will make it possible to cover the entire demand of the economy and the population for electricity, including those planned for the deployment of high-energy infrastructure of artificial intelligence and large data centers, as well as to create a surplus of 20% of production capacity." - Deputy Minister's report. Today, according to the data of the Ministry of Energy, most of the energy capacity is generated from traditional production sources: coal-fired power plants - 13.7 GW, gas - 7.1 GW and large hydroelectric power plants - 2.5 GW. RES facilities stand at 3.8 GW. At the end of 9 months of 2026, the share of renewable energy sources in total electricity production reached 8.5% compared to 7%. By the end of 2035, at least 8.4 GW of new renewable energy capacity is expected to be commissioned, including about 1.8 GW of solar generation.
