Implementation of the President's speech: It is planned to create a 20% electricity surplus in Kazakhstan by 2029. By 2029, 13.3 GW of new energy capacity is planned to be launched in Kazakhstan, including 7.4 GW of traditional generation and 5.9 GW of RES power sources. This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Energy in Kitchen Elias at the cabinet meeting. "In general, the activity of launching the new capacities planned until 2029 will provide an opportunity to satisfy all the needs of the economy and the population for electricity, including an energy-intensive infrastructure of artificial intelligence and large power plants, as well as the creation of a 20% surplus of production capacities." said the deputy minister. Today, according to the data of the Ministry of Energy, the main part of all energy power is generated from traditional production sources: coal power plants - 13.7 GW, gas power plants - 7.1 GW and large hydroelectric power plants - 2.5 GW, RES facilities - 3.8 GW. According to the results of the ninth month of 2026, the share of RES in the total electricity production exceeded the planned 7% and reached 8.5%. By the end of 2035, at least 8.4 GW of new RES capacity is expected to be commissioned, including about 1.8 GW of solar generation.
