The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy reported that two oil tankers caught fire following explosions in the Strait of Hormuz early Sunday. According to a statement published by the Public Relations Office of the IRGC Navy, one tanker was located east of the strait and the other inside the waterway. Both vessels hit mines while trying to navigate unauthorized routes.
The statement said the tankers violated regulations and turned off their navigation and positioning systems to avoid detection.
The Revolutionary Guards Navy warned that any vessel that cooperates with the United States military or violates Iran's regulations in the restricted areas of the straits will face the risk of hitting a mine.
