Iran protests IMO's biased reports on shipping security London, Irana -. The Islamic Republic of Iran criticized biased reports by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on the shipping crisis, and emphasized that the protection of seafarers should not be selective and that the difficult conditions facing Iranian seafarers should also be addressed. The Iranian delegation at the 138th session of the IMO Council in London criticized the organizations' incomplete and unbalanced reports on maritime security and protection of seafarers, and called for an impartial assessment of the threats to maritime safety.

The delegation stressed that IMO reports should not ignore the US naval blockade of Iran's ports and military attacks on the country's vessels and critical maritime safety infrastructure.

She also called on the organizations' future reports to fairly reflect Iran's legal positions, supported by documents submitted to council members.

The Iranian delegation emphasizes that the protection of seafarers should not be selective, calling for equal treatment for all seafarers, regardless of nationality or political differences. In this context, she raised concern about the difficult conditions faced by Iranian seafarers near Sri Lanka and called for urgent and non-discriminatory action.

The Iranian delegation also protested the repetition of the accusations against Iran in the IMO Secretary General's report, and repeated its rejection of the May resolution adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee as political and legally unfounded.

The delegation called for transparent, comprehensive and unbiased reporting on maritime threats and urgent protection of affected seafarers, especially Iranians, holding US and Israeli military aggression and the naval blockade of Iran responsible for the current crisis.

The 138th session of the Council is being held in person at IMO Headquarters, with hybrid facilities for remote participation, from Monday 2 November to Friday 6 November.
