Iran chooses diplomacy, warns of an unprecedented response to a miscalculation: Moscow officials, IRNA -. Iran has chosen diplomacy to avoid further regional tensions, but any miscalculation by the opposing side will trigger an unprecedented response, says Saeed Khatibzadeh, head of the Center for Political and International Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking Tuesday at the Minsk International Conference on Eurasia Security, Khatibzadeh said the world is undergoing profound changes, with unresolved conflicts stretching from Ukraine to the Persian Gulf and West Asia, placing Eurasia at the center of a global transition.
The official added that Iran defends both its sovereignty and its people, as well as the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.
Khatibzadeh also reaffirmed Iran's commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), saying that Tehran's policy towards the treaty remains unchanged.
The military aggression of the US and Israel has permanently changed Iran's strategic calculations, he noted, adding that Tehran will not accept coercion under external threats.
Khatibzadeh also emphasized Iran's interest in strengthening strategic cooperation with Russia and Belarus and supporting the proposed Eurasian Security Treaty as a means of preventing unilateral actions by major powers.
