Iran, Nigeria have extensive potential to expand bilateral ties: President Pazhkian Tehran, IRNA -. Iranian President Masoud Pazhkian called for stronger economic, political and cultural cooperation between Tehran and Abuja, saying the two countries have considerable untapped potential to deepen their relations. President Pazhkian said this on Tuesday, while receiving the credentials of Hamza Mohammed Salou, Nigeria's new ambassador to Iran.

The president emphasized the positive image of Nigeria and its people among the Iranians, saying that the two countries can expand cooperation across a variety of fields. He called on the new ambassador to make efforts during his tenure to strengthen bilateral relations, especially in the economic, cultural and political fields.

President Pazhkian also pointed to opportunities for closer cooperation through international organizations and mechanisms, including the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). He said that Iran is ready to use all available capabilities to develop relations with Nigeria and will welcome any initiative aimed at promoting mutual cooperation.

Referring to regional developments, the president said that the current crises stem from the hegemonic and aggressive policies of the United States and Israel. He urged the Muslim countries not to allow Israel to push the region towards instability and chaos, and emphasized the need for regional and Islamic solidarity to promote peace and security.

Referring to the recent acts of aggression against Iran, President Pazhkian said that the current tensions were triggered by the other side and that Iran reacted in self-defense. He added that those who believed that an attack would force Iran to surrender had miscalculated.

According to him, parties who truly seek regional peace and stability should abandon coercion and attempts to impose their will on others, and instead pursue understanding and constructive engagement.
