Red lines are a thing of the past', says Arjechi to the Chancellor of Germany Tehran, IRNA -. Foreign Minister Abbas Arakhchi responded to the words of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who called for a quick end to the war between the US and Israel in Iran due to the increase in energy prices caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Argachi responded on Saturday after Merez said European businesses and consumers had incurred more than 100 billion euros in additional costs over the past eight months due to rising energy prices caused by the Iran war. The chancellor said that Europe has an economic interest in ending the conflict as quickly as possible.
The Iranian foreign minister recalled Meraz's response when the US and Israel launched their first war of aggression against Iran in mid-June 2025 under the pretext of destroying the country's nuclear program. Argachi reiterated that the Iranian armed forces will provide a stronger response if there is a new act of aggression against the country.
"When the Israeli-US bombings of Iran began last year, Mr. Meraz welcomed them. 'Doing Europe's dirty work. 100 billion euros is nothing compared to the earth-shattering blow that Iran's powerful armed forces will face against those who would dare harm our people. Red lines are a thing of the past," the Iranian foreign minister said on X.
Iran has taken control of the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of March as part of defensive measures in response to the second war of aggression launched by the US and Israel on February 28.
Iran has allowed ships from "friendly" countries to pass through the strait on several occasions. However, the Islamic Republic announced that the strait was effectively closed after the US violated a memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides on June 18, 2026, to pave the way for broader peace talks. Less than a month after the signing of the memorandum, the US military launched attacks on places throughout Iran, mainly in the south.
