It was not possible to resign peacefully. The prosecutor's office is prosecuting the former mayor of Budaibo Yevgeny Yomshev on anti-corruption charges. The attorney's office filed a lawsuit against the former head of Bodaibo, Yevgeni Yomshev, to recover unjust enrichment. The reason was the former mayor's income from renting real estate. The amount of the claims has not yet been published. Yevgeni Yomshev himself confirmed to journalists that the dispute concerns funds from renting properties purchased by him in 2004, three years before his election to the position of mayor. According to the former mayor, his wife controlled the property for a long time. After the divorce in 2024, the property returned to his direct control. Yomshav pointed out that last year the anti-corruption committee already conducted an audit of the receipt of these revenues and found no violations of the law. I declare all income and pay taxes on it. The prosecutor thinks otherwise. The issue is controversial, we are preparing for trial. "We will argue," said the former mayor. Claims of this type by the supervisory authorities are often based on a strict prohibition to engage in the business of municipal employees. The court will have to determine a fine legal line: whether to recognize receiving rental payments as an illegal business activity or as acceptable passive income. Yevgeny Yomshev served as mayor of Budaibo city and Budaibo district continuously since March 11, 2007. He was successfully re-elected to this leadership position four times - after elections in 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022. In September 2026, Yomshav officially announced his resignation.
