The state of the cedar forests in the Irkutsk region leaves much to be desired. Trees get sick in droves and are attacked by insect pests. If we take the total area of infected and diseased trees in the region, then cedar forests will account for more than 40%. This is evidenced by forest pathological monitoring data. The studies showed that the area of the contaminated forests in the Angra region amounted to almost 149 thousand dunams. This is almost a quarter of all the plantings that were damaged in the area. Furthermore, diseased cedar forests make up more than 62 thousand dunams. The most severe lesion is found in the fir-cedar forests of the Khmer-Davan ridge in the southern Baikal region. In addition, at the foothills of the Sian Mountains in Tuplaria, the area occupied by dwarf cedar has been decreasing recently. This year, the failure of the pine harvest became one of the reasons for the mass exodus of bears to settlements in the Angra and Krasnoyarsk territories. According to experts, due to lack of food, bears left the so-called dark coniferous lands closer to settlements, where there is much more food. Predators were attracted to food waste dumps, crops, farm animals, etc. Probably next year, in a similar situation, the bears may return. However, the migration of the bears should not be attributed only to the lack of pine nuts. Their approach to people is largely affected by habitat loss due to logging, mining and fires, berry crop failure and a decline in hunter numbers. Image generated by AI.
