In the Nizhnyelmsk district of the Irkutsk region, 37% of officials and other public sector workers will be laid off due to the budget deficit. Due to financial problems, the administration of Nizhnyelmsk district is embarking on a large-scale optimization. By January 1, 2027, the staff of local officials will be reduced by 37% and night guards will be completely abolished in schools, kindergartens and cultural centers. The mayor of the district, Pavel Berzovsky, explained that the lack of funds forces spending cuts in all areas. Administrative workers, municipal service centers and cultural institutions have already been fired. The authorities guarantee that the safety of the children will not be harmed by the economy. During the day, during the educational process, guards and physical security will continue to be on duty. At night, the safety of municipal property will be monitored using video surveillance systems. These measures are forced, and they happen painfully, because behind each number there is a specific person. "I understand that there are many dissatisfied people, but the decisions are dictated by an urgent need," said Pavel Berzovsky.
