Ali Asghar Naheirad, a member of the Interior Committee and State Interior Councils of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a note published on Friday, November 6, called for a review of the Islamic Republic's membership in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and said that this membership only brings costs and limitations.
Criticizing the functioning of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Nachirad saw this institution under the influence of America and the Western countries and said that despite the implementation of its nuclear commitments, the Islamic Republic did not enjoy the appropriate benefits of these collaborations.
He also announced that more than 70 members of parliament have already signed the request to change the nuclear doctrine of the Islamic Republic, and this request still exists.
This member of parliament emphasized that withdrawing from the NPT is a separate issue from changing the nuclear doctrine and does not necessarily mean a decision to acquire nuclear weapons. Nachirad also accused the International Atomic Energy Agency of passing information on scientists and nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic to Israel, and saw this issue as another reason for the necessity of leaving the NPT.
