The Wall Street Journal reported that the airports of the Persian Gulf countries, developed with an investment of hundreds of billions of dollars, are now exposed to missile and drone attacks by the Islamic Republic and its allied groups. According to this newspaper, the airports of all countries in the region, with the exception of Oman, were targets of attacks, and at least 28 cases of damage were recorded near the airports. Attacks on Dubai and Riyadh airports damaged facilities, disrupted flights and increased security and insurance costs. This situation delayed the return of Western airlines to the region and affected tourism, international conferences and the security credibility of the Persian Gulf countries. However, Dubai is pressing ahead with its $35 billion Al Maktoum Airport expansion plan, and Saudi Arabia's King Salman Airport project may face delays. The newspaper added that the airports play a central role in reducing the region's dependence on oil, and experts warn that protective measures do not guarantee their complete safety.
