Mehdi Taj, the president of Iran's football federation, at the ceremony to introduce Yahya Golmohammadi as the new coach of the Iran under-23 national team, expressed hope that this team would be able to advance to the Olympic Games after years of failure. Taj praised the choice of Golmohammadi and said: "We have chosen two excellent head coaches in Israel. Amir Jalnoi and Golmomadi have 18 championship trophies together. With all due respect to all the coaches in Israel, these two are among the best." He stressed about the main goal of the Iranian national team up to the age of 23: "This time, I hope we will take an effective step to advance to the Olympics." I hope we don't embarrass the people this time." Referring to the ability of young players in the Premier League, the head of the Football Association added: "48 players under the age of 21 play in our league, and almost as many of our teams are made up of players under the age of 21. These are the target market of Golmohammadi and his colleagues." Taj also appreciated the efforts of the former technical staff, including Hossein Abdi, and said the federation had organized several training camps and tournaments to prepare Iran's under-23 national team.
