In the indictment of the assassination case against Alejo Vidal Cuadras, the former deputy of the European Parliament, the prosecutor's office of the National Court of Spain identified the Islamic Republic as behind the attack and demanded sentences of up to 27 years in prison for the seven defendants. Al Fais newspaper reported on Friday, November 1, that the prosecutor's office saw the shooting of Vidal Cuadras in Madrid as part of the Islamic Republic's campaign to hunt down, intimidate and kill opponents outside of Iran. Vidal Cuadras was shot in the face on November 9, 1402 in Madrid and survived with the quick intervention of the rescue forces. The prosecutor asked for 27 years in prison for Mehrez Airi, who was accused of shooting, and 23 years in prison for Naraya Gomes, who was accused of watching the victim. The other four defendants were asked to serve 20 years each and 10 years for the defendant in the disappearance of the evidence. According to the Al Fais report, this assessment is in line with the opinion of Santiago Federes, the judge investigating the case, who saw the assassination attempt as related to Vidal Cuaders' position as one of the leading figures against the Iranian government in Europe.
