A new day of protests and unrest has begun in France.
Unions have called for more demonstrations since Thursday, and demonstrations broke out in French cities yesterday afternoon against cuts to social programs and support for higher wages. The demonstrations are supported by many youth groups. In several cities, protesters set up barricades in front of schools. In Paris, the police dispersed several groups of demonstrators with tear gas. Authorities expect up to 80,000 protesters in Paris alone and another 700,000 in other cities. Today, due to an ongoing student protest, more than a thousand schools across France are closed. The peak of the protests is expected in the coming hours.
