Emomali Rahman, the president of Tajikistan, signed a decree and introduced the "tulip" and "sihgosh" as the national flowers of this country. The text of the decree states that this choice was made in order to introduce the historical and cultural heritage of Tajikistan in the international arena and the government is committed to introducing these two flowers in national and international programs. Choosing a national flower in many countries is a way of turning a well-known plant into a symbol of national identity. Usually, a flower is chosen that has a strong presence in the nature of that country or is associated with the history, literature, rituals and collective memory of the people. Such a choice can increase attention to the protection of native species and their habitats in addition to the cultural introduction of the country. The two selected flowers are associated with spring and Nowruz in Tajikistan. Sihgosh is one of the first flowers to appear at the end of winter, and in local traditions it is a sign of the coming of spring and the beginning of the new year. The tulip is also associated with spring celebrations and the custom of the "Tulip Flower Parade" and is a symbol of the beauty and prosperity of nature in Tajik culture.
