The "Jhansanat" newspaper, in a report that examined the sharp jump in the price of medicines and the decrease in the effectiveness of insurance coverage, announced that the cost of treating a simple cold and flu-like symptoms in Iran can now reach 4 million tomans, including visits, medicines and serum treatment.
According to an investigation by this newspaper, the free price of hypothetical prescription drugs to treat the symptoms of colds and respiratory infections is one million and 361 thousand tomans. A patient covered by national insurance with a prescription from a general practitioner must pay one million and 295 thousand tomans, equivalent to approximately 95% of the cost of the medication. On the other hand, the patient's share within the armed forces insurance for that prescription is about 597 thousand tomans.
Mahbova Valdaghani, one of the former directors of the Food and Drug Organization, in a conversation with "Jahan Senate", criticized the increase in the price of drugs without correcting the insurance coverage, said that some common drugs such as Jalopan and Cold Stop are not covered by insurance and patients have to pay all their costs.
