Abbas Arakhchi, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said in a conversation with Al-Jazeera on Saturday, October 31, that the message of J. Dee Vance, the Vice President of the United States, was carefully scrutinized and there were discussions and opinions about him in high level meetings. Argachi saw the American side's effort to open dialogue and understanding on a broader level as a positive step, but said that if Washington's goal in sending Vance's message is to create differences and divisions, it would be a new mistake to be added to America's previous mistakes. Regarding the possibility of meeting with American officials, he said: "Currently, we have no plans to meet with American officials, and what is discussed in this context is only media speculation." Argachi added that Tehran sees no need to meet with the Americans in the current situation, because Iran's conditions are clear and the mediators continue to consult on these conditions. According to him, after Washington agrees to Iran's terms, a decision will be made regarding direct or indirect negotiations.
Arjeci's comments regarding the review of Vance's letter at the highest levels of the system come as the official media of the Islamic Republic reported on the meeting of Mohsen Razai, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and recipient of Vance's letter, with Mujtaba Khamenei, the third leader of the Islamic Republic.
