The digging of treasure hunters fell into the life of an old juniper; The roots of a 2,000-year-old tree in North Khorasan were damaged. An old juniper tree near the Iran-Turkmenistan border, in the city of Raz and Jargalan in North Khorasan province, is at risk of serious damage due to unauthorized digging by people who were looking for treasure. According to the ISNA report, this tree, which is estimated to be thousands of years old, was repeatedly targeted by people who dug up parts of the earth around the tree thinking that there was treasure under or around it. These excavations damaged the tree's root network and raised concerns about the continuation of its life and the possibility of its drying out. The juniper tree or mountain cypress is one of the most valuable and long-lived species in the mountainous regions of Iran. Due to its very slow growth and its ability to adapt to harsh climatic conditions, this tree can live hundreds of years and even more than two thousand years under the right conditions.
