kerchief; Among the ancient and symbolic dances of Iranian weddings, matfaq is one of the popular local and ritual dances at celebrations and weddings in many regions of Iran. From the Kurds and Lors to the Bakhtiaris, Qashqais and some regions of Khorasan and southern Iran, colorful handkerchiefs are part of the rhythmic movements of men and women in public celebrations. In Kurdish and Lori group dances, usually the one who stands at the beginning of the line and is responsible for leading the dance, holds a handkerchief in his hand and shows the others the rhythm and the changes of movements by moving or turning it. Among the Bakhtiaris and Kashkais, the dancers, mainly the women, sometimes dance with two colored handkerchiefs and give the dance an impressive effect with a coordinated movement of hands and feet.
