On Thursday, November 7, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have detected an American UAV named "MQM-170" west of the Strait of Hormuz and landed it safely. According to the IRNA news agency, the Revolutionary Guards Navy announced in a statement: "During an offensive operation, the electronic warfare unit of this force managed to safely land an American MQM-170 UAV in the western Strait of Hormuz, after it was discovered and identified, by taking over the guidance and control systems." According to this statement, the UAV's mission was to identify the air defense systems of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the coastal strip of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The Revolutionary Guards Navy also announced that a review of the information recovered from the drone showed that the origin of its flight was the shores of one of the countries on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf. This claim was made after the Revolutionary Guards previously announced the downing of another American MQ-1 UAV in the airspace east of the Strait of Hormuz.
