The representative of Israel at the meeting of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, on Wednesday, October 28, demanded a comprehensive review of the killings, executions, arbitrary arrests and the pressures and threats on the families of the victims in Iran.

Referring to the findings of the UN's independent fact-finding panel on Iran, he said that there are still questions about the extent to which the published reports fully reflect the dimensions and severity of human rights violations in Iran. In its latest report, the UN Fact-Finding Panel concluded that a number of human rights violations during the suppression of nationwide protests, including murder, imprisonment, torture and other inhumane acts, amounted to crimes against humanity.

Israel's representative also accused the Islamic Republic of providing financial support, weapons and training to groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, saying that Tehran's policies have caused instability in the Middle East. The representative of Israel previously made such accusations against the Islamic Republic at the meetings of the Third Committee.

He went on to say that instead of focusing on the rights and well-being of the Iranian people, the Islamic Republic has prioritized the nuclear program, the ballistic missile arsenal and support for proxy groups, saying that the protests of the Iranian people need the attention and action of the United Nations to achieve a better future. May Sato, the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, also said at the same meeting that the military attacks by the US and Israel increased internal oppression in Iran and the Iranian people suffered at the same time from the consequences of war and human rights violations within the country. He called for an end to executions, for the release of people arrested for exercising their rights and for an investigation into the deaths caused by the actions of government forces.
