The Wall Street Journal, citing American and informed sources, reported that J. Dee Vance, US Vice President, sent a letter to Mohsen Razai, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, at the behest of Donald Trump, to prepare the ground for the resumption of peace talks between Tehran and Washington. That action came as Trump raised the possibility of resuming war with Iran after next week's midterm elections.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Vance is trying to determine whether Tehran and Washington can reach common ground for negotiations so that Trump does not issue a final order for a short and sharp attack on Iran in the coming weeks. Vance's letter and subsequent talks between senior U.S. and Iranian officials have yet to include details on the peace proposal and have focused more on a possible framework for negotiations, a source familiar with the matter said.
