According to Reuters, the General Directorate of Border Crossings and Customs of Syria completely closed the Nassib border crossing with Jordan yesterday and suspended the movement of passengers and commercial cargo in both directions. This government body announced in a statement that this action was taken due to "developments on the ground in Daraa district". The blockade of the crossing occurred after the Jordanian Air Force attacked locations in southern Syria that it called "militant hideouts". Amman saw this as a response to last week's deadly attack on a church in its territory and emphasized that its perpetrators have ties to terrorist groups located in southern Syria. The Nassib crossing is the only active trade and passenger crossing between Jordan and Syria.
