On Sunday, November 3, in a report, Tejarat News announced the significant increase in the prices of cosmetics in Iran and the tendency of consumers to buy cheap and unbranded products. According to this report, the increase in the exchange rate and import costs meant that brands such as Shiglem and Kiko, which were previously among the economic products, were offered at prices of several million otmans, and some buyers switched to products without valid specifications. Checking the prices in the various stores shows that Shiglam lipsticks cost about 2,700,000 tomans, some cream powders of this brand cost close to 4,000,000 tomans, and its mascaras cost between 2,000,000 and 3,000,000 tomans. The price of some of Kiko's lipsticks in various stores ranges from about 2,500,000 tomans to more than 9 million tomans, and some of the face and eye makeup products of this brand are sold at prices higher than 10 million tomans. This price increase is while in November 1404 some shiglam rubies were sold at the price of 700 to 900 thousand tomans, but now the price of some models of this brand has exceeded two million tomans. On the other hand, there are cheaper and less well-known products on the market at prices starting from several hundred thousand tomans. Tejarat News also reported that Iranian cream powder costs 900 thousand tomans in one store and the same product costs almost 1.6 million tomans in another store. Mahmoud Alboya, CEO of Cosmetics and Health Products of the Food and Drug Organization, warned in the past that the decrease in purchasing power could lead consumers to cheap products that may lack legal approval, required quality and health supervision. Fatma Asadi, a skin and hair expert, said in a conversation with Tejarat News that the most important risk of cosmetic products is the lack of valid specifications, unclear ingredients and lack of quality control in their production and maintenance stages. According to him, the use of these products may cause redness, itching, inflammation, boils and allergic reactions, and the microbial contamination of liquid and cream products also increases the risk of skin problems.
