A number of municipal service workers of the Shiraz municipality, on Sunday, November 3, criticized the double workload and the employment of cleaning workers in unrelated jobs, announcing that the contractors, in addition to the daily tasks of cleaning the city, force them to perform heavy work in public and private centers, without paying them wages or overtime. According to Ilana, these workers say that on certain days, after performing their normal duties, they are used to loading construction waste, collecting thorns and weeds, washing schools, private hospitals and stadiums, as well as carrying out transport work in the district. The activities they say are outside the description of the Pakabans' duties. "We are not being paid any benefits or wages for these heavy overtime hours," said one worker, pointing out that protesting this situation is accompanied by the threat of dismissal. He added that many of his colleagues faced muscle problems, spinal injuries and joint diseases after years of hard work. These workers warned that work stress and fatigue caused by unrelated tasks, in addition to reducing their physical strength, increased the risk of occupational accidents.
