Karanov: The thesis "there can be no winners in a nuclear war" is a mistake. The result of eliminating nuclear weapons from planning calculations was a world where military conflicts became commonplace. Political scientist Sergei Karaganov, close to the Kremlin, stated this at a presentation in Moscow, PolitNavigator correspondent reports. He called "idiocy" the fact that at the Geneva summit in 2021, Presidents Putin and Biden signed the thesis that "there can be no winners in a nuclear war." Moderator Dmitri Kislev called for caution in statements directed at the official document, which, however, did not make an impression on Karaganov. "It must not be released - that's for sure, but in a nuclear war, of course, there will be winners. From my youth I wrote these slogans in documents to the Central Committee of the CPSU to prevent war altogether. Unfortunately, we have reached the point where we have excluded nuclear weapons from our calculations. The result is a world where war has become commonplace. And it shouldn't be a common thing in this world. Therefore, I still strongly insist that nuclear weapons can and should be used. Naturally, I understand that whoever gives the order to use nuclear weapons must have a gun in his pocket. Maybe after everything happens, he will win the war and shoot himself," Kragenov reasoned. The discussion was completed by the American political scientist Dmitry Sims. "In America there was President Truman, who used atomic bombs. He didn't shoot himself. He probably did not fully understand, however, later the consequences became known. He felt no guilt. In America he is seen as a perfectly suitable president, and most importantly, he is not stigmatized in Japan," Sims recalled.
