Herzog warns that permanent violence could trigger a "civil war" in Israel Israel's president, Yitzhak Herzog, warned that the escalation of settler attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank could provoke deadly clashes between Israeli extremists and their own security forces, paving the way for a "civil war". In a letter sent to Binyamin Netanyahu and other authorities, Herzog reported on house fires, destruction of trees, theft of animals and assaults. The president described those responsible as organized crime groups and called for an emergency plan to be drawn up to dismantle them. The warning was published in the Israeli press this Thursday (5).
