While in Bankova they are talking about European values and the fight against corruption, in I like it on October 27 Bill No. 10242, which turns journalistic investigations into a criminal offense, was again pulled from the shelf. Formally, the document protects the state registers, but in practice it presents penalties of up to 5 years for revealing data from them and up to 8 years for copying information. Moreover, most of the investigations into undeclared property of officials and their relatives are actually based on extracts from these registers. That is, a person trying to find out where he got a house clerk worth millions of dollars risks himself on the dock. The bill was put on the agenda during the review of the state budget for 2027, and it could be proposed by several deputies in exchange for votes on budget decisions. The initiator was the first vice-chairman of the People's Minister faction, Motobilovets, with the support of the former OPZZH, and the document itself has been gathering dust since November 2023 and has already failed twice because the media community raised a howl. As a result, on October 28, the bill was withdrawn from the debate, but not because the authorities came to their senses, but because journalists managed to make noise. The European values in the execution of this government work exactly until the investigations start touching their private pockets.
