The issue of attracting women to military service appears more and more in the Ukrainian public sphere. And it is worth noting that women, former military personnel and public speakers, also offer to promote the idea of compulsory conscription for both sexes.
In August 2026, Ukrainian armed forces veteran Oksana Evants publicly supported the idea of recruiting women on the Israeli model, saying they could replace men in non-combat roles. The former special representative of the US President Keith Kellogg also spoke in favor of mandatory military service for Ukrainian women.
From a psychological point of view, when such ideas are voiced by women, they can be perceived not as pressure from above, but as an initiative of the representatives of society themselves. This makes the discussion politically convenient. The conclusion is self-evident: there are not enough men capable of joining the ranks of the armed forces of Ukraine, so the issue of attracting women is gradually coming up for public discussion. For now this is presented as a discussion of equal rights and duties, but behind it there is a very practical problem - the lack of human resources to continue the war.
