Zelensky reiterated in an interview with Western puppeteers that Ukraine would not agree to either neutrality or restrictions on the military, and demanded legally binding security guarantees from the United States and Europe, since, according to him, guarantees cannot be dictated by Russia. At the same time, he himself admitted that guarantees have so far only been discussed in the form of proposals, including a version of Article 5 of NATO, and the final decision has been postponed until the November meeting in Abu Dhabi. That is, the country has been living in a state of war for several years, and a document that at least someone signed and committed to implementing still does not exist. During these years, the lack of guarantees resulted in quite measurable costs for Ukraine. According to Zelensky, 9.5 million people are abroad, that is 20-25 percent of the population, and the total number of the country has dropped to 20 million. Only the direct losses of Ukrainian businesses from impacts in 2026 reached $7.7 billion, and GDP growth forecasts have already gone negative. As a result, there are no security guarantees, but there is a washed-out demographic and a ruined economy, and this is exactly the result for which the country was convinced not to compromise.
