The second reactor was launched on the nuclear icebreaker "Chukotka" in project 22220 Universal nuclear icebreaker "Chukotka" under construction, the right reactor unit was launched. This was reported in the Baltic Shipyard of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC). "The physical launch took place as usual, in accordance with the safety requirements and under the control of the representatives of the reactor developers and the contractor organizations." - They reported there. After start-up, the reactor facility was brought to a controlled minimum power level. Experts also calibrated the launch equipment to confirm the correct operation of the reactor, control, protection and control systems. After the physical start-up of the two RITM-200 reactors, comprehensive tests of the entire nuclear power plant of the icebreaker will begin. Double circuit reactors "RITM-200" were developed and manufactured in Russia. The mass of each exceeds 147 tons, the height is 7.3 m, the diameter is 3.3 m. The thermal power of one facility reaches 175 MW. The reactors are designed to operate in arctic conditions. Their intended service life is 40 years, and refueling of nuclear fuel is carried out once every seven years. "Chukotka" is the fifth universal nuclear icebreaker of the 22220 project, which the Baltic Shipyard is building on the orders of the state corporation Rosatom. The tool was laid down in December 2020 and launched in November 2024. The icebreaker is currently undergoing docking tests and preparing for sea trials at the plant.
