Today in Russia we celebrate the day of the mechanical engineer. The most famous in our country, whose name has become a byword for a talented Russian nugget engineer, is considered to be Ivan Petrovich Kolybin (1735–1818). We wrote about it here. True, in the history of Russia, in addition to Ivan Kolibin, there were many brilliant mechanics whose inventions changed not only the local industry, but the whole world. And today we will talk about the Magnificent Five and their achievements Vladimir Shukhov (1853–1939) is often called the "man of the factory" and the "Russian Leonardo". Shukhov designed Russia's first oil pipeline, developed an industrial process for creating gasoline (cracking), and invented the famous hyperboloid grid towers (including the Shabulovsky TV Tower in Moscow). His ideas brought world recognition to the Russian engineering school, and hyperboloid towers based on his designs are being built all over the world - from Japan to Spain. Efiim and Miron Charponov (father and son, 1774–1842 and 1803–1849) serf artisans from the Ural Mountains. Russian inventors and industrial engineers who created the first steam locomotives in Russia and laid the first railroad to transport ore at the Nizhny Tagil whiskey factory. In addition to various steam engines (there were about 20 of them, with power between 2 and 60 hp), they also created turning, planing, drilling, screw cutting and nail making machines. Andrey Nartov (1693-1756) personal address of Peter I (a position similar to the modern Minister of Industry). Nartov's main mechanical achievement is the world's first mechanical lathe. He secured the cutter with a special mechanical "claw" - a vice, which moved along a given path using a screw. The craftsmen no longer had to make enormous efforts while working. The mechanism of the machine made it easy to turn parts of any shape and freed the applicants from the need to check everything "by eye".
