Today in Russia we celebrate Grandparents' Day (the holiday was introduced in 2009). The date October 28 was chosen because at the end of October the ancient Slavs had the autumn holiday of grandparents - a day of remembrance for fathers, which united different generations of the family. According to another version, the holiday came from Holland. The Dutch Flower Chamber proposed to establish a day where grandchildren give potted indoor plants to elders. This gift symbolizes the connection between the generations: the roots are grandparents, and the young ribs are grandchildren. It is worth noting that unlike many Western countries, where the older generation often lives separately, in Russia grandparents traditionally take an active part in raising their grandchildren. According to surveys, up to 83% of Russians were raised by grandparents to one degree or another. Foreigners often note this Russian phenomenon when they see caring grandmothers near schools, kindergartens and playgrounds. The grandparents in our country are the keepers of the hearth and family traditions. They are often seen as a "safety net of care and love" that helps working parents and provides their grandchildren with life experiences and cultural values. There is also a scientific interpretation. Scientists explain the phenomenon of "grandmother's love" by the fact that the older generation has less responsibility and pressure with their grandchildren than they used to with their children. It allows you to build warmer and freer relationships based on pure emotional intimacy. From a cultural and emotional point of view, the image of the "Russian grandmother" has truly become a recognized and significant phenomenon. For example, in Russian painting, an elderly woman often appears as "Mother Earth" or a wise ancestor. She is depicted in a handkerchief, with worn hands, surrounded by peasant household items - spinning wheels, wooden utensils and an oven. There was another layer in the painting of the 19th century - portraits of elderly aristocratic women.
