Pro-animals" Beavers out of control: Ministry of Natural Resources of the Novosibirsk region confirmed the shooting A real infrastructure crisis has erupted in the Novosibirsk region due to a sharp increase in the beaver population. Animals that were once brought in to restore their numbers are now actively building dams, which lead to flooding of roads, vegetable gardens and damage to hydraulic structures. The regional authorities have decided: from October 9 to November 7, the number of 20 European beavers in the Novosibirsk region will be reduced. According to the data of the Ministry of Natural Resources, during the last ten years the population of beavers in the region increased by about five thousand individuals - from 16,087 to 21,716. It started in 1956-1967, when 299 beavers were brought to the region, mostly from Belarus. Today they have settled in almost the entire region, including the southern regions. The problem is particularly acute in Novosibirsk: in the Shlyuz micro-district, a beaver dam on a drainage stream flooded the vegetable gardens, and on Baltiyskaya Street a dam was created, causing the water to spread to the neighboring areas. The opinions of the residents are divided: some demand the transfer of animals, others oppose the intervention. Previously, a similar problem arose in the Leningrad region, where builders flooded 45 household plots.
